Disturbing pictures of the American province
Gregory Crewdson, an American photographer born in 1962, is the author of a disturbing series of photographs showing the interiors of American homes and the streets of small towns and suburbs of New England. Crewdson is photographing as if he were making a Hollywood production. His photographs look best at the exhibitions, but let's try to take a look.
Crewdson first looks for places, then checks them for light at any time of day or night, and then develops a scene plan that is built in the studio. The heroes of the pictures are usually local residents.
The project "Cathedral of the Pines" refers to the actual place that he found after moving out of New York in 2011, to live alone in the rural town of Becket, in western Massachusetts, near the family home. That's where he came across a trail which name inspired him to create a new project.
"Being deep in the forest I have found a connection with the artistic side of myself. I experienced a kind of aesthetic awakening. The name of the trail and the circumstances of nature have immediately provided me with ideas for a whole series of works, "says the author in an interview for Time magazine.
