Salt mine in the Danakil Desert - Andrea Moroni
The photographer and traveler Andrea Moroni shows the everyday life of the employees of the salt mine, which is the main raw material found and mined on this secluded area. The Danakil Desert is one of the hottest places on earth with average daily temperatures exceeding 27 degrees. The work there is extremely hard, and the salt deposits extracted are transported by a camel caravan, in the form of tablets called 'amoles', which once functioned as a currency in this area.
